This is important because CCD and CMOS sensors are extremely susceptible to UV and IR rays just outside the visible spectrum which have a very negative impact on image quality. The result is a sharper image with more depth, finer, richer colour graduations and a reduction of the effects of atmospheric haze to an even greater degree than a standard UV filter In addition, the filter is multi-coated, which greatly reduces lens flare and ghosting, and the slim frame helps avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses.
